
President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the Elebute family over the passing of Professor Oyinade Elebute, who died on September 13 at the age of 91.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late Professor Elebute as a distinguished physician and academic who made invaluable contributions to medicine and healthcare in Nigeria. She was a professor of Physiology at the University of Lagos and co-founded Hygeia Nigeria Ltd, Lagoon Hospitals, and Hygeia HMO Ltd.
President Tinubu paid tribute to her lifetime of service to humanity, noting her dedication to medical practice, her role in training generations of health professionals, and her pioneering efforts in private healthcare. He described her as a trailblazer whose passion for science and medicine will continue to inspire future generations, adding that Nigeria remains grateful to role models like Professor Elebute, who proved that women and girls can excel with the right education and opportunities. The President prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and comfort for her family and loved ones.
