Why APC Replaced Candidates Ahead of 2027 Elections – Report

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revised its list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, replacing several aspirants following internal reviews and petitions arising from the party’s primary elections.

The changes affected multiple senatorial and House of Representatives candidates across several states, including Benue, Ondo, Kogi, Abia, Taraba, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna, and Ebonyi.

According to the party, the substitutions were made after the APC Primary Election Appeal Committee reviewed complaints from aggrieved aspirants and submitted recommendations to the National Working Committee (NWC), which approved the final adjustments.

The party said the review process was necessary to resolve disputes from its primaries and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among the key reasons for the replacements were unresolved primary election disputes, petitions from aspirants challenging outcomes, and efforts to finalise a more acceptable list of candidates for the affected constituencies.

The APC leadership also stated that the updated list was forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

The affected candidates include several high-profile figures who were initially declared winners of the party’s primaries before being replaced after the appeal review process.

The development highlights ongoing internal restructuring within the party as it consolidates its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
