Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has disclosed that Manchester United made an approach before he accepted the Stamford Bridge job, but says he had “no doubts” about joining the Blues. The Italian enjoyed a dream debut campaign in London, guiding Chelsea to both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup titles.
Maresca confirmed he held discussions with United in 2024 but explained that Chelsea’s stature and squad quality convinced him to commit immediately. “Once Chelsea called, the decision was clear. This club, with its ambition and players, was the right place for me,” he said.
The 44-year-old also offered words of encouragement to under-fire United boss Ruben Amorim, who has endured a difficult start at Old Trafford. “Ruben is a magnificent manager. It’s not easy at a club like Manchester United, but I believe he has the qualities to succeed there,” Maresca said.
