President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged funding support for youths in the South South geopolitical zone to help expand agribusiness ventures and unlock employment opportunities. In a recent announcement, officials revealed that young people in states such as Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Edo will benefit via grants, training, and access to inputs to boost food production and value chain activities.

Ministerial representatives emphasized that these interventions are part of a broader youth driven, tech enabled agribusiness transformation policy. Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari noted that government efforts will focus on reducing barriers such as high costs of inputs, limited infrastructure, and weak access to financing. Programme elements include business incubation, digital tools for farming, and improved linkages to markets.

Stakeholders, especially youth associations and agripreneurs in the South South, have welcomed the initiative, saying that long standing challenges like underfunding, dependency on traditional farming methods, and transport difficulties will be addressed. While optimistic, many called for transparency and accountability in fund disbursement to ensure the intended beneficiaries actually reach widespread impact.
