BREAKING: FG Revokes 1,263 Mineral Licenses Nationwide

The Federal Government has revoked 1,263 mineral licenses across Nigeria in a sweeping move to sanitise the solid minerals sector and enforce compliance with existing laws. The decision is part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and due process in mining activities.

Authorities explained that the revoked licenses cut across exploration, mining, quarrying, and small-scale operations, with many holders failing to meet statutory obligations. The government warned that non-compliance with regulatory frameworks undermines revenue generation and threatens sustainable development in the sector.

The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development emphasised that the move signals a zero-tolerance stance toward infractions, adding that the affected licenses could be reassigned to more credible investors. The government reiterated its commitment to repositioning the solid minerals industry as a major driver of economic diversification.
