Uber Contributes ₦34 Billion to Nigeria’s Economy

Uber says it added ₦34 billion to Nigeria’s economy in 2023, according to its latest Economic Impact Report by research firm Public First.

The report, unveiled at the Lagos Road Mobility Summit, showed drivers earned an extra ₦6.1 billion, with incomes averaging 34% higher than their next best option. Riders also enjoyed a consumer surplus of nearly ₦500 billion, saving over 1.8 million hours through faster and more convenient trips.

Safety and social benefits were also highlighted: 97% of riders cited safety as a key reason for using Uber, while 78% of women riders considered it the safest way to get home at night. The company further boosted nightlife and tourism, contributing ₦930 million and ₦5.4 billion respectively.
