The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official commencement of political campaigns ahead of the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

According to a statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, campaign activities by political parties will run from Wednesday, September 24, 2025, and close at midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026, two days before the elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

INEC urged all political actors to conduct their campaigns with civility, decorum, and respect for the rules of engagement, warning against inflammatory language or actions capable of breaching peace.
