The Federal Government has sounded a flood warning across 15 states and 69 communities, cautioning residents to brace for significant rainfall expected between September 24 and 28, 2025. The alert was issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Environment’s National Flood Early Warning Centre, in a notice signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management Department.
According to the advisory, flood-prone areas include Yola, Yenagoa, Warri, Benin City, Oguta, Kano, Jibia, Akure, Oyo, Ahoada, Shagari, Serti, and Gusau, among others, spanning across Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Edo, Imo, Kano, Katsina, Ondo, Oyo, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, and Zamfara States. The Ministry noted that the projected heavy downpour could trigger flooding in the listed communities and surrounding areas.
Authorities have urged residents, local governments, and emergency response agencies to prepare and take proactive measures to mitigate the risks of loss of lives, property, and livelihoods. The Ministry emphasized that the alert forms part of its early-warning system designed to reduce the impact of seasonal flooding nationwide.
