President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has boosted Nigeria’s power generation capacity with the addition of 80 megawatts to the national grid following the successful commissioning of Unit 1G9 at the Kainji Hydropower Plant.

The newly commissioned unit is part of ongoing efforts by the administration to expand electricity supply, strengthen energy infrastructure, and provide reliable power to homes and industries across the country.

The upgrade at Kainji underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging renewable energy resources to diversify Nigeria’s power mix and ensure long term energy security.

President Tinubu, who has repeatedly stressed the centrality of energy to economic transformation, noted that improved electricity supply remains a critical pillar of his Renewed Hope Agenda for industrial growth, job creation, and improved living standards.

Industry experts described the additional 80MW as a major boost to the national grid, which continues to benefit from the government’s focus on power sector reforms and investments in critical infrastructure.
