Tottenham Hotspur have issued a strong condemnation after forward Jessica Naz was subjected to “disgraceful” and “cowardly” racist abuse on social media following their tense Women’s League Cup victory over Aston Villa. The 24-year-old revealed that she received vile messages in her direct inbox after being substituted during the game, which Spurs went on to win 7-6 on penalties at Brisbane Road.

Breaking her silence after the match, Naz shared a powerful statement on Instagram: “I was subjected to racial abuse in my DMs. Racism in any form is unacceptable and it’s important to address this behaviour and ensure that steps are taken to prevent it from happening again.” The forward, who has started every game this season across the WSL and League Cup, made it clear she would no longer stay quiet about such hateful attacks.

Tottenham, in a statement on their official website, expressed full support for Naz and pledged to take decisive action. “The club is disgusted by the racist abuse received by Jessica Naz via social media. Jess has spoken out against this disgraceful behaviour — and we stand by her in calling out this unacceptable and cowardly act. We are working with the appropriate authorities and social media platforms to identify the responsible party, and we will be taking the strongest action against them.” Spurs reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on racism, insisting there is “no place for prejudice in sport or society.”
