Fermin Lopez Quashes Rift Rumours With Gavi: ‘We Are as Always’

Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has dismissed persistent speculation of a fallout with teammate Gavi, insisting the two remain close friends despite months of rumours linking them to personal disputes and preseason clashes. Speaking in an interview with Rac1, the 20-year-old stressed his focus on maturity, mental strength, and loyalty to Barcelona as media chatter continues to swirl.

Stories of tension between the pair first surfaced in summer 2025, when Spanish tabloids alleged a feud between their partners had spilled into the players’ bond. Those rumours escalated after Barcelona’s preseason tour of South Korea, where two heated incidents—Gavi’s aggressive tackles that left Lopez shaken, followed by a fiery exchange broken up by teammates—fueled narratives of dressing room friction and even a potential transfer request.

Lopez, however, rejected the claims outright, pointing to their long-standing friendship since the age of 13. “We are as always. He is one of my best locker room friends with Pedri, Balde, Eric, Dani Olmo… There is no problem,” he said. Manager Hansi Flick had already intervened during preseason to cool tensions, while Barcelona blocked Chelsea’s summer bid for Lopez, with Flick personally convincing him to stay. With both club and player committed, Lopez says the rumours belong outside the walls of the Camp Nou: “Nobody knows what goes on inside.”
