Ogun State’s newly built Gateway International Airport (GWI) will officially open for commercial operations on October 7, 2025, with indigenous carrier ValueJet Airlines launching scheduled passenger flights.

The airline will operate twice-weekly services between Abeokuta and Abuja, flying every Tuesday and Thursday. According to the published schedule, flights will depart GWI at 8:30 a.m., arriving in Abuja by 9:45 a.m. The return leg will leave Abuja at 4:00 p.m. and touch down in Abeokuta at 5:15 p.m.

Ticket sales commenced on September 25 through ValueJet’s official website, accredited travel agencies, and airport ticketing counters.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has granted regulatory approval for the airport to begin operations, while Ogun State officials describe the launch as a milestone for regional connectivity and economic growth.

With a 4,000-meter runway and modern facilities, the Gateway International Airport is designed to handle both domestic and international traffic, including wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350. Plans are also underway to introduce twice-weekly cargo flights between London and GWI, positioning the airport as a hub for trade and logistics.

Governor Dapo Abiodun hailed the development as “a bold step in transforming Ogun into an aviation and investment destination,” noting that the project will stimulate tourism, business travel, and industrial activity across the state.

The October 7 inaugural flight will mark a new chapter in Ogun’s aviation history, as the state joins the growing list of Nigerian regions with functional international-standard airports.
