BREAKING NEWS: Marketers Fear Fuel Price Hike as PENGASSAN Strike Begins

Share

Fuel marketers have expressed growing concern over a possible hike in petrol prices as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) officially commenced its nationwide strike today. The industrial action, triggered by the mass dismissal of nearly 1,000 Nigerian workers at the Dangote Refinery, has already disrupted gas supply to refineries and related facilities, sparking fears of ripple effects across the downstream sector.

Although PENGASSAN leaders have assured Nigerians that the strike will not immediately lead to long queues at filling stations, marketers warn that prolonged disruption in crude and gas supply could escalate operational costs, ultimately translating into higher pump prices. “The strike may not bite today or tomorrow, but if unresolved, the impact will be inevitable,” one marketer told reporters.

The Federal Government has summoned both PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery management to an emergency meeting in Abuja today in a bid to resolve the dispute. Industry watchers say the outcome of the talks will be crucial in determining whether fuel prices remain stable or spiral upwards in the coming weeks.
