The Federal Government has set an ambitious goal to generate over N7.2 trillion in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and create more than 2.5 million jobs through the tourism sector by the end of 2025. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify Nigeria’s economy and reduce reliance on oil exports.
Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, highlighted the sector’s potential to rival and even surpass oil as a revenue source for Nigeria. She emphasized that tourism holds immense economic potential as a powerful catalyst for job creation, foreign exchange earnings, and infrastructure development, especially in emerging economies.
To achieve these targets, the government plans to address challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, security concerns, and inconsistent policies. By developing diverse tourism products and promoting cultural heritage, Nigeria aims to unlock the sector’s full potential and position it as a significant driver of economic growth, reflecting President Tinubu’s commitment to economic diversification and job creation.
