Micromobility Goes 24/7 as Cities Expand Scooter and Bike Rentals

Commuters and night-time travelers are set to benefit from expanded micromobility services as rental e-scooters and e-bikes become available around the clock in several cities worldwide.

In the UK, Bristol has scrapped its midnight curfew on e-scooter and e-bike rentals, making the vehicles available 24/7 for the first time. The move aligns Bristol with Southampton, where Voi already operates round-the-clock services.

In the United States, 24/7 access is becoming increasingly common. New York City users of Lime’s scooters and bikes can already rent them at any hour, while Cleveland provides 24-hour e-bike access, with scooters operating until midnight. Dublin, Ohio, has gone further, offering a full fleet of scooters, e-bikes, and pedal bikes available day and night through its partnership with Veo.

The expansion of continuous access is part of a broader trend as micromobility operators seek to integrate more deeply into urban transport systems. Advocates say it gives residents greater flexibility, supports late-night workers, and reduces reliance on cars.

However, the growth comes as regulators continue to debate safety and usage rules. The UK government recently extended e-scooter rental trials again, while countries such as Finland have tightened laws banning scooter use for children and requiring stricter licensing for operators.

With demand for greener, more flexible travel options growing, 24/7 scooter and bike access is expected to become a standard feature of urban mobility networks worldwide.
