Moses Onate, a member of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative, has announced the distribution of 1,000 CNG kits across Abuja and four states as part of efforts to expand the use of cleaner, cheaper fuel alternatives. Onate made this statement during an inspection tour of a warehouse located at Ibafo on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where some of the kits are stored.

The 1,000 kits, including cylinders, are being distributed to Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna, Oyo, and Abuja. Onate noted that 450 kits have already been dispatched to Kaduna and Abuja, while 550 are scheduled for Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun states. He highlighted that the federal government has not received any negative feedback from previous distributions, signaling the initiative’s success.

To raise public awareness, the committee has actively promoted the initiative through social media, encouraging Nigerians to take advantage of the cost benefits of CNG.

“This initiative will greatly reduce fuel costs,” said Onate, adding that while fuel prices hover around N1,000 per liter, CNG is sold for as low as N210/N230. He emphasized that the significant price difference would positively impact citizens, and up to 10 CNG conversion centers have already been established in Lagos.

Austin Nwaoduh, a pipeline engineer at the warehouse, praised CNG’s advantages, stating that it is cheaper, has a low consumption rate, and is more environmentally friendly due to reduced emissions. “It’s a worthy initiative by the president, and it will help lower the cost of running vehicles,” he added.

The distribution and promotion of CNG kits align with the government’s commitment to providing more affordable and eco-friendly fuel alternatives for Nigerians.
