Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, in recognition of his visionary leadership and transformative contributions to Africa’s energy landscape. The award, one of the highest distinctions at AEW, celebrates leaders whose work has left an enduring mark on the continent’s oil, gas, and energy industries.

In its citation, the African Energy Chamber hailed Tinubu for his “dedication to advancing Africa’s energy security, his bold leadership in navigating Oando through periods of uncertainty and transformation, and his pivotal role in demonstrating the power of indigenous companies in driving industrial growth and energy sovereignty.” He joins an elite group of past recipients, including Professor Benedict Oramah (Afreximbank, 2024), the late President Hage Geingob of NamibiaFormer President Macky Sall of Senegal (2023), and Congo’s Hydrocarbons Minister Bruno Jean Richard Itoua (2022).

From Oando’s modest beginnings as a local downstream operator, Tinubu has built the company into one of Africa’s leading integrated energy enterprises, with a portfolio spanning exploration and production, power, and renewables. Described as a firm believer in Africa’s right to define its own energy destiny, Tinubu’s leadership has embodied vision, determination, and resilience—qualities that continue to inspire a new generation of African leaders. For him, the recognition represents not just personal achievement, but a tribute to Africa’s boundless potential and the promise of its people.
