President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Oleh Bill into law, paving the way for the establishment of the first federal tertiary healthcare institution in Delta South Senatorial District.

The new law marks a significant milestone for the region, which has long advocated for improved access to specialised healthcare services and a stronger federal presence in the health sector.

The establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Oleh is expected to expand access to quality medical care, reduce the burden on existing health facilities and improve healthcare delivery for residents of Delta South and neighbouring communities.

The legislation was sponsored by Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, and passed by the National Assembly before receiving presidential assent.

Stakeholders have described the development as a major boost to healthcare infrastructure, medical training and employment opportunities in the region, expressing optimism that the new institution will enhance health outcomes and regional development.
