Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to publicly apologise to airport staff and pay a ₦25,000 fine over an alleged wrongful parking incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Keyamo said he ordered an internal investigation after Obi alleged that the tyres of his vehicle were unjustly clamped as part of a campaign of political persecution against him.

According to the minister, CCTV footage from the airport showed that Obi’s vehicle was left unattended in a designated drop-off zone for about 30 minutes, contrary to airport regulations and global security standards.

He stated that airport security personnel clamped the vehicle without knowing its owner and maintained that the action was taken in line with standard operating procedures.

The minister further alleged that Obi later spoke with airport officials by phone and secured the release of the vehicle without paying the prescribed fine.

Keyamo accused the former Anambra State governor of attempting to create a false narrative for political advantage and said the allegations of selective treatment were not supported by the investigation.

He demanded that Obi publicly apologise to the airport staff involved and voluntarily pay the ₦25,000 parking fine within one week.

The minister warned that if the demands are not met within the stipulated period, he would direct the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
