Turki Al-Sheikh Sparks Fresh Manchester United Sale Rumours Amid Financial Struggles

Saudi sports promoter Turki Al-Sheikh has set football circles buzzing after claiming that Manchester United are once again up for sale, with a deal allegedly in its final stages. Al-Sheikh, a key figure in bringing major boxing events to the Middle East, posted cryptically on social media: “The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor – I hope he’s better than the previous owners.” The remark, viewed by many as a dig at Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family, has stirred speculation despite no confirmation from Old Trafford.

The revelation reignites the takeover saga that dominated 2023, when Ratcliffe’s INEOS group acquired a 25% stake and assumed control of football operations. While no official statement has surfaced, Al-Sheikh’s claim comes at a sensitive time for United, who are facing mounting financial pressure after missing out on European qualification and exiting the 2025–26 Carabao Cup at the hands of League Two side Grimsby.

With a reported £100 million shortfall, United are exploring lucrative international friendlies to boost revenue. The club previously pocketed £8 million from a post-season tour of Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, and are now eyeing a £10 million payday from potential fixtures in Saudi Arabia. Whether the Red Devils are truly heading for another ownership shake-up remains to be seen, but the latest claim has reignited questions about the club’s long-term financial stability and leadership direction.
