In a strongly worded press statement dated September 15, 2024, Dangote Group has refuted claims made by NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, alleging that the company sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N898 per litre to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The statement, issued by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, dismissed the claims as “misleading and mischievous.”

The Dangote Group clarified that this false claim is intended to undermine the company’s milestone achievements in tackling Nigeria’s energy insufficiency and insecurity. The statement called on Nigerians to disregard this “malicious” information and await formal pricing announcements from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries. This formal process, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to commence on October 1, 2024.

Additionally, Dangote emphasized that the PMS sold to NNPCL was transacted in dollars, with considerable savings compared to what NNPCL currently imports. The company assured Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products and reaffirmed its commitment to ending the country’s endemic fuel scarcity.

The statement also underscores the government’s focus on ensuring that petrol reaches every local government area, regardless of their location, following this pricing arrangement.
