A Lagos State Special Offences Court has admitted statements made by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as evidence in his ongoing trial over an alleged $4.5 billion fraud case.
The court ruled that the statements tendered by the prosecution were admissible and could be relied upon during the proceedings.
Emefiele is facing multiple charges filed by the EFCC, including allegations bordering on fraud, abuse of office, unlawful gratification and related financial offences during his tenure as CBN Governor.
The ruling marks a significant development in the trial, as the prosecution continues to present evidence in support of its case.
The former apex bank chief has consistently denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The case was subsequently adjourned for the continuation of trial proceedings.
