Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has left the state for a two-day working visit to Portugal, aimed at attracting foreign investors to support the state’s THEMES+ development agenda. The visit, disclosed via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, September 18, focused on forging partnerships to enhance Lagos’ infrastructure.
Sanwo-Olu’s primary target was the Mota-Engil Consortium, one of Europe’s largest construction firms, renowned for executing large-scale infrastructure projects in Africa. During the visit, the governor and his delegation toured key facilities, including the Porto International Airport (Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport), built by Mota-Engil, as well as their waste management and real estate operations.
The governor expressed his admiration for Mota-Engil’s track record, noting their capabilities in delivering major projects across the continent. He emphasized the importance of potential collaborations for the proposed Lekki-Epe International Airport, a critical initiative designed to reduce congestion at Murtala Mohammed International Airport and improve infrastructure in the Lekki-Epe corridor.
The visit is part of Lagos’ ongoing efforts to secure skilled, trustworthy, and capable investors to boost development across various sectors in the state.
