Federal Government Inaugurates Committee for 2024 Independence Day Celebration

The Federal Government has officially inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Committee tasked with organizing Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration. This committee will plan, coordinate, and execute activities commemorating the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers.

The inauguration was led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, CON, represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman. She announced that the 2024 Independence celebration would be low-key, reflecting the current challenges Nigeria is facing.

The SGF highlighted that the celebration offers the government an opportunity to present its achievements since assuming office, showcasing reform initiatives aimed at delivering the dividends of democracy.

The 64th Independence Anniversary will kick off with a World Press Conference on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Other events include a Juma’at Service on Friday, September 27, a Church Service on Sunday, September 29, followed by a Presidential Broadcast and the Independence Day Parade on Tuesday, October 1.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee includes key government officials such as the Ministers of Budget and Economic Planning, Information, Interior, Foreign Affairs, and the FCT, as well as the Inspector-General of Police and the National Security Adviser.

The Committee’s mandate includes organizing all approved activities for the celebration, documenting these for future reference, and ensuring the successful execution of the program.
