Wike Applauds Court Ruling Halting PDP National Convention, Calls It a Wise Decision

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commended the court ruling that halted the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), earlier scheduled for November 15th and 16th, 2025. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Wike described the decision as “a very wise one,” noting that it was necessary to prevent what he called “a looming crisis” within the opposition party. The injunction, granted by a Federal High Court, effectively puts on hold all convention-related activities pending the determination of ongoing legal disputes over the party’s leadership structure.

Jocomms Correspondent reports that Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and one of the PDP’s most influential figures, has remained vocal about internal divisions that have plagued the party since the 2023 general elections. He argued that proceeding with the convention amid unresolved legal battles would have deepened the PDP’s internal fractures and undermined its credibility. “You cannot build unity on illegality,” Wike stated, emphasizing the need for the party to respect judicial processes before taking major political steps.

The court’s decision has generated mixed reactions among party members, with some describing it as a setback to rebuilding efforts, while others view it as an opportunity to restore order and legality within the party’s ranks. As tensions simmer and political alignments continue to shift, the big question remains—will the PDP emerge stronger from this legal impasse or sink deeper into crisis ahead of the next election cycle?
