The Ogun State Government has filed criminal charges against two traditional rulers and other individuals over allegations of land grabbing and unlawful takeover of properties in different parts of the state.

The monarchs involved are Oba Fatai Matanmi and Oba Yusuf Olasunkanmi. The charges were disclosed by the Ogun State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN.

According to the state government, Oba Matanmi was accused of allegedly interfering with a parcel of land in Ijoko Ota after a dispute arose over ownership and possession of the property.

The government also accused Oba Olasunkanmi of allegedly using intermediaries to take over land belonging to complainants in the Igbesa area and extending the enforcement of a court judgment beyond the property covered by the original ruling.

Two other individuals, Chief Lekan Agbogun and Chief Akinbowale Beckley, were also charged over allegations that they sold a property belonging to another person in Abeokuta without proper authority or valid title documents.

The Ogun State Government said the legal action reflects its commitment to tackling land grabbing, protecting property rights, and ensuring that disputes over land ownership are resolved through due process.

The defendants remain innocent until proven guilty by the court, as the cases proceed for judicial determination.
