The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned the Oluremi Tinubu Gender and Public Policy Studies Centre at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos. Speaking at the event, she emphasized that real national progress can only be achieved when men and women work together as allies, dismantling stereotypes and creating equal opportunities across all sectors.
Senator Tinubu praised the Centre’s inclusive approach, which actively involves both men and women in research and policy formulation. The project was conceived and executed by participants of the Senior Executive Course 45 (2023) at NIPSS, and the First Lady highlighted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at harnessing the full potential of all citizens regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or economic status. As part of her support, she donated N250 million to the Centre.
In his remarks, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed optimism that the Gender Centre would strengthen public discourse on women’s participation in governance and national development. Former Senate President and NIPSS Board Chairman, Sen. Ken Nnamani, commended the naming of the Centre after the First Lady and urged attention to the Institute’s infrastructure as it approaches its 50th anniversary. The Centre is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing transformative public policy research and promoting inclusive national development.
