The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning Nigeria as a global leader in the digital economy through strategic investments in infrastructure, innovation, and talent development.
Speaking at the 2025 Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition (DNICE) in Abuja, Vice President Shettima described the digital economy as Nigeria’s “second chance” to redefine its global relevance through technology and innovation. He emphasized that the Tinubu–Shettima administration is implementing bold policies to expand broadband connectivity, enhance digital skills, and create millions of technology-driven jobs.
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, disclosed that the Federal Government plans to deploy over 4,000 new telecommunications towers to connect at least 20 million underserved Nigerians. He said the initiative forms part of a broader national plan to make digital access inclusive, strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem, and attract greater foreign investment into the ICT sector.
Dr. Tijani noted that Nigeria’s digital economy has recorded remarkable growth, with foreign direct investment in the sector increasing nearly ninefold over the past year. He added that the Ministry remains committed to advancing artificial intelligence research, promoting innovation hubs, and integrating digital solutions into education, agriculture, and creative industries.
Vice President Shettima stressed that the Renewed Hope Agenda identifies the digital sector as a central pillar for economic diversification, national productivity, and job creation. He called for stronger collaboration between government institutions and private sector partners to build a sustainable and inclusive digital future for all Nigerians.
By expanding broadband infrastructure, empowering local innovators, and promoting digital inclusion, the Tinubu–Shettima administration seeks to make Nigeria a global hub for digital excellence and economic transformation.
