Aviation experts have cautioned the Senate against interfering in the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau’s (NSIB) probe into the recent Air Peace runway incident at Port Harcourt International Airport.
The Senate Committee on Aviation had faulted the NSIB’s report, citing inconsistencies, and later cleared Air Peace of negligence and alleged drug use by its crew.
Experts, however, warned that such legislative intervention could undermine the independence and credibility of air safety investigations. They stressed that aviation probes should remain strictly technical and free from political influence to maintain global confidence in Nigeria’s aviation oversight.
“Safety investigations must be guided by international best practices, not political considerations,” said by an expert.
The NSIB’s investigation into the Air Peace runway overrun recorded no fatalities. The Senate has since promised to recommend reforms to improve transparency in future aviation investigations. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
