Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to fostering stronger international partnerships and deepening relations with member states of the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS). This declaration was made on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the high-level event, Vice President Kashim Shettima affirmed Nigeria’s dedication to the goals of the OACPS during a meeting chaired by Angola. The Vice President underscored the importance of unity and cooperation among member states in tackling the myriad of global challenges facing the organisation.

“Nigeria remains a principal partner of OACPS, championing our shared values of democracy, diaspora engagement, and development,” Shettima stated. He also highlighted Nigeria’s role as a leader within the OACPS and its efforts to address pressing national and international concerns, aligning with the broader objectives of the organisation.

The OACPS, which consists of 79 member countries from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, focuses on promoting sustainable development, democracy, and solidarity among member states. Nigeria’s reaffirmation of its commitment to the group comes at a crucial time, as global challenges such as climate change, economic inequality, and security threats continue to dominate international discussions.

This meeting, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, provides a platform for member states to align strategies, foster collaboration, and discuss solutions to common challenges. Nigeria’s leadership role within the organisation is expected to contribute significantly to these efforts.
