Nigeria has formally requested the support of Finland in its bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations (UN) Security Council. As Africa’s most populous nation and the sixth-most populous country globally, Nigeria is advocating for reforms and the expansion of the Security Council, a goal echoed by several other UN member states.
During a recent engagement, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima emphasized Nigeria’s status as a significant force on the African continent. He outlined the nation’s commitment to strengthening cultural ties and collaboration, particularly within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Shettima underscored Nigeria’s determination to contribute to regional stability and integration, stating that the nation will explore every avenue to achieve these objectives.

Nigeria’s pursuit of a permanent seat in the Security Council reflects its aspiration to play a more influential role in global governance and its ongoing efforts to enhance peace and security across Africa.
