In a generous gesture of solidarity, the Government of Korea has donated N10,000,000 to the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to assist in emergency relief efforts for flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State. The donation was officially presented during a ceremony held today, attended by key representatives from both the Korean government and the NMA.
The donation was made by Mr. Son Sungil, Country Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), alongside Mr. Joseph Oboh, President of the South Korea International Cooperation Association of Nigeria (SKICAN). The funds will be utilized to implement vital emergency interventions, including medical assistance, relief supplies, and essential services for the affected communities.
“This donation is part of the Korean government’s broader commitment to humanitarian aid and supporting disaster relief efforts in Nigeria,” Mr. Sungil stated. He noted that the Korean government is collaborating with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to enhance primary health services for conflict-affected populations in Borno State.
Mr. Sungil further emphasized KOICA’s commitment to fostering partnerships that bolster local health systems and enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities. “We are proud to stand with all members of SKICAN in providing timely assistance to those affected by this natural disaster. Our commitment is to ensure that these resources will go a long way in delivering relief to flood-affected communities,” he added.
In response to the donation, the NMA expressed deep gratitude for the generous contribution, highlighting its significant role in addressing the immediate medical needs of flood victims. With this support, the NMA is better equipped to manage and respond to the health challenges arising from the flooding, ultimately aiding in the recovery of the affected areas.
