Federal civil servants in Nigeria will begin receiving payments under the new minimum wage structure starting Thursday, September 26, 2024. This was confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, in an exclusive interview with reporters on Thursday.
Mokwa assured that workers on the federal government payroll will start getting alerts reflecting their updated salaries as part of the new wage structure. The implementation of the revised minimum wage has been a long-anticipated step aimed at improving the welfare of public sector workers across the country.
The announcement follows months of negotiations between the federal government and labor unions, and is expected to bring relief to civil servants, many of whom have been advocating for better pay amidst rising costs of living.
