Authorities in Imo State have uncovered an unlicensed mortuary allegedly linked to organ-harvesting activities. The facility, reportedly operating under the name Ugwudi Cottage Hospital and Mortuary Services, was discovered in Umuhu Autonomous Community along the Owerri–Aba Expressway in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area.

During the operation, police found multiple corpses in advanced stages of decomposition, stored under unhygienic conditions. Many of the bodies were mutilated, raising concerns about potential involvement in organ-trafficking. The mortuary also had a hotel at the front, which authorities believe may have been used to disguise the illicit operations.

The main suspect, identified as Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, is currently at large. Police have sealed the mortuary and hotel while a forensic team documents evidence recovered from the premises. Citizens are urged to provide any information that could assist the ongoing investigation.

“The facility was not licensed by the state, and the conditions in which the bodies were found are highly disturbing,” a spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command stated. Authorities say they are committed to identifying and prosecuting anyone involved in the alleged organ-harvesting network.

The state government has also indicated plans to demolish the structure once legal procedures are completed, emphasizing that such clandestine operations will not be tolerated. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
