Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports alleging that he was offered ₦500 billion to contest the 2027 presidential election against Peter Obi.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan described the report as false, baseless, and fabricated, insisting that he neither made such a claim nor granted any interview suggesting he was approached with the alleged offer.

According to Eze, the publication failed to provide any credible evidence, including when or where the alleged statement was made, who made the purported offer, or any witnesses to support the claim. He said the story was deliberately created to mislead the public and drag the former president into unnecessary political controversy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Jonathan’s media aide further stressed that the former president has not declared any intention to contest the 2027 presidential election and has never suggested that he was offered money to undermine any candidate.

He urged Nigerians and media organisations to verify politically sensitive reports before sharing them, warning that misinformation and fabricated stories often increase as election seasons approach.

The rumour, which circulated widely on social media, alleged that unnamed political actors offered Jonathan ₦500 billion to enter the 2027 presidential race in a bid to split votes that could favour Peter Obi. Jonathan’s office has categorically denied the allegation and called on the public to disregard the report. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
