Former United States President Donald J. Trump has announced that U.S. forces carried out military strikes against ISIS-affiliated militants in northwest Nigeria.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform on Monday night, Trump said the operation was conducted under his direction as Commander in Chief and described it as a “powerful and deadly strike” against terrorists linked to the Islamic State group.
According to the statement, the targets were militants accused of attacking and killing civilians, particularly Christians, in the region. Trump claimed the strikes were carried out with precision by the U.S. military and warned that further action would follow if such attacks continued.
“The United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorists in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump said, adding that the operation was intended to curb what he described as escalating violence against civilians.
He also praised the U.S. armed forces for executing the operation and reiterated his long-standing stance against what he termed “radical Islamic terrorism”.
There has been no immediate independent confirmation from U.S. defence authorities or Nigerian officials regarding the reported strikes, and further details about the operation were not disclosed at the time of the announcement.
