President Tinubu Condoles with Anthony Joshua Following Ogun State Accident

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reached out to Nigerian-British former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua following a tragic accident in Ogun State that left two of Joshua’s associates dead and the boxer injured.

In a telephone conversation, President Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Joshua and prayed for his recovery. He also spoke with Joshua’s mother, who expressed appreciation for the call.

The President additionally spoke with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was at the hospital with Joshua, and received assurances that the boxer would receive the best possible medical attention.

Earlier, while abroad, President Tinubu took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his sympathy, noting Joshua’s courage, discipline, and patriotism as qualities that have made him a source of national pride.

“I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident,” the President said. “I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed.”

The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway accident, which occurred recently, remains under investigation, with authorities coordinating efforts to ensure support for those affected.
