Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on an official visit during which he is expected to inaugurate major road rehabilitation projects aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic recovery in the North-East.
Shettima was received by Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, upon his arrival on Friday ahead of the flag-off of key infrastructure projects in the state.
During the visit, the Vice President also paid a condolence visit to Prof. Shehu Liberty, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at the University of Maiduguri, following the death of his wife, Dr. Fatima Shehu Liberty. He offered prayers for the deceased and commiserated with the bereaved family.
The Vice President is expected to flag off the rehabilitation of the Bama–Banki Road and the Dikwa–Gamboru–Ngala Road, two critical transport corridors in Borno State.
The projects are aimed at strengthening movement, enhancing security access, improving cross-border trade, and supporting recovery efforts in communities affected by years of insurgency.
Officials say the road rehabilitation forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader infrastructure development agenda, focused on reconnecting communities and revitalising economic activities across the North-East.
Communities such as Bama, Banki, Dikwa, Gamboru and Ngala are considered strategic to the region’s economic revival and long-term stability.
