Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu has responded to the Socio‑Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) over allegations that ₦128 billion in public funds went missing from the Ministry of Power and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET).
SERAP had urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Attorney General and other anti‑corruption agencies to investigate the alleged irregularities. In his reply, Adelabu clarified that the ₦128 billion in question relates to the 2022 financial year, which predates his appointment as Minister of Power in August 2023.
The minister emphasized that the allegations have no connection to his tenure, adding that while he supports legitimate investigations into past financial issues, he cannot be held responsible for them.
Adelabu’s office also reiterated the ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that it will cooperate with credible investigations to resolve legacy challenges in the power sector.
