A U.S. immigration agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman, identified as Renee Nicole Good, in her car on Wednesday in Minneapolis during an immigration enforcement operation, according to local and federal officials. The incident marks the latest fatal encounter amid President Donald Trump’s intensified nationwide crackdown on migrants.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey strongly disputed federal claims that the shooting was carried out in self-defence. Speaking at a press conference after viewing video footage of the incident, Frey said the evidence contradicted the government’s account, describing the official narrative as false. He accused federal immigration agents of creating fear and disorder in the city and called on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to leave Minneapolis, while also urging residents to remain calm.

The Minneapolis City Council confirmed the victim’s identity and said Good had been caring for members of her community before her death. In a statement, the council described her killing as an act carried out by the federal government and demanded the immediate withdrawal of ICE from the city.

The shooting sparked widespread outrage and protests. As night fell, thousands of people reportedly gathered at the site of the incident in the city’s Central neighborhood, holding a candlelight vigil. Earlier in the day, some demonstrators clashed with heavily armed federal agents wearing gas masks, who deployed chemical irritants to disperse crowds.

Democratic leaders in Minnesota and Washington condemned the operation, calling it an unnecessary provocation that resulted in a tragic loss of life.
