


Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for its transformative impact on the global entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, noting that the institution has raised over $1.5 billion and created more than 30,000 jobs over the past 20 years. He urged African entrepreneurs to unite and leverage MIT’s networks and opportunities to fully harness the continent’s vast potentials, emphasizing that collaboration is key to turning opportunities into tangible results that improve lives and livelihoods.
VP Shettima highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s bold economic initiatives, noting that the administration is leveraging available opportunities to transform Nigeria’s economy and enhance citizens’ livelihoods. He called on African professionals and entrepreneurs to unite in purpose, stressing that Africa’s enormous human and material resources can only be fully harnessed through collective effort.
The remarks were made during a courtesy visit by the Kuo Sharper Foundry Fellowship 2025-2026 delegation, led by MIT Executive Director Dina Sherif. Sherif briefed VP Shettima on the Centre’s initiatives to fuel global entrepreneurship, assuring that it is “dedicated to fueling the engine of entrepreneurship across the world” and will continue supporting African startups. Also present were NEMA DG Zubaida Umar and fellows of the Fellowship from across Africa.
