
The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of intervention funds to public tertiary institutions across Nigeria following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Under the 2026 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention cycle:
Public universities will each receive about N2.5 billion Polytechnics will each receive approximately N1.8 billion Colleges of Education will each receive around N2 billion
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arch. Sonny Echono, said the funding is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to revitalising tertiary education and enhancing research and innovation. He noted that the allocations aim to strengthen critical infrastructure, academic programmes, research capacity, and staff development, while ensuring fairness through uniform disbursement to federal and state institutions.
Echono further highlighted that the 2026 intervention introduces support for digital learning and connectivity through the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN), expanding access to global academic resources.
The Federal Government said the funding would boost teaching, learning, and research outcomes in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for human capital development.
