A California theatre company has confirmed that it conducted an internal investigation in 2001 into allegations involving actor Timothy Busfield, stating that he has not been associated with the organisation for the past 25 years.

The confirmation comes amid fresh legal troubles for Busfield, who was charged on Tuesday, January 13, in New Mexico with two counts of criminal sexual contact involving a minor and one count of child abuse. The charges relate to alleged incidents involving two 11-year-old boys he reportedly encountered while working on The Cleaning Lady.

In a pretrial motion filed by prosecutors, reference was also made to an earlier allegation that Busfield abused a 16-year-old girl at a California theatre several years ago. The document cited the allegation as part of the broader background presented to the court.

Responding to the renewed attention, B Street Theatre acknowledged that it had retained external legal counsel to carry out an internal review of the allegation at the time. In a statement, the theatre said the matter was investigated internally and emphasised that Busfield has had no involvement with the organisation since 2001.

Busfield has not publicly commented on the latest charges. The case remains before the court, with further proceedings expected as investigations continue.
