The Federal Government has urged Nigerian farmers to take the lead in driving an agricultural revolution, emphasizing the need for local processing and export-oriented production to boost the nation’s economy.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, made the appeal at the General Assembly of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Abuja. He highlighted the critical role of farmers in achieving food security and accelerating economic diversification under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The Federal Government is committed to strengthening agricultural productivity and ensuring food security across the country. Farmers must embrace innovation, mechanization, and export-oriented production to transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape,” Kalu said.
The assembly also served as a platform to enhance collaboration between farmers, government agencies, the private sector, and development partners, reinforcing AFAN’s position as the unified voice of farmers nationwide.
In related developments, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to boost soil health and farm productivity. Meanwhile, the government unveiled a 10-year Agricultural Strategic Action Plan (2026–2035) aimed at transforming food systems and promoting youth-led innovation in agriculture.
These initiatives signal the government’s determination to modernize agriculture, create jobs, and position Nigeria as a competitive player in the global food market. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
