The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture through closer collaboration with the Ministry of Defence.

Speaking while receiving the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd.), in Abuja, Tunji-Ojo described national security as a tripod built on intelligence, internal security and defence. He cautioned against inter-agency rivalry, stressing that effective coordination among security institutions is essential to addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The Interior Minister emphasised the strategic importance of border security and clarified the specialised mandate of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in safeguarding critical national assets. He described attacks on such infrastructure as acts of economic terrorism that undermine national stability and development.

In his remarks, Gen. Musa commended Tunji-Ojo’s ongoing reforms in the interior sector and called for deeper synergy between the two ministries. He noted that contemporary security threats increasingly blur the lines between internal and external security, making cooperation and information sharing more critical than ever.

Both ministers agreed on the need to enhance intelligence sharing, adopt integrated data management systems and activate an inter-ministerial technical committee. They expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between the Ministries of Interior and Defence would significantly strengthen Nigeria’s security framework and contribute to a safer nation.
