Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, January 19, 2026, facing a five-count charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The charges, filed under case number FHC ABJ CR 484 2025, accuse Sowore of cybercrime, defamation, and incitement. According to the DSS, the case relates to social media posts Sowore made in August 2025, in which he allegedly referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” and made other statements authorities claim were defamatory and capable of inciting public disorder.

The matter is currently before the court, and proceedings are ongoing as legal arguments continue regarding the charges against the activist and media publisher.
