The Nigerian Armed Forces has confirmed that some military officers were implicated in a plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government. The Defence Headquarters said a concluded investigation linked a number of officers to planning a coup, and those with cases to answer will be tried under military law.
Several officers, initially arrested in October 2025 over alleged breaches of service regulations, are now being formally charged and will face trial before military judicial panels in accordance with the Armed Forces Act. The military emphasised that the proceedings are disciplinary, aimed at preserving order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within its ranks.
Authorities stressed that the move underscores the commitment of the Armed Forces to Nigeria’s constitutional order, assuring the public that all measures are being taken to prevent any threat to the nation’s democratic governance.
