Rep Obi Aguocha Slams Soludo Over Handling of Monday Sit-At-Home in Anambra

Obi Aguocha, a member of the House of Representatives, has criticised Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, over his approach to ending the long-running Monday sit-at-home in the state.

Aguocha’s reaction followed Governor Soludo’s decision on Monday to order the closure of the popular Onitsha Main Market. The governor accused traders of deliberately defying government directives by continuing to observe the sit-at-home despite official instructions to resume normal business activities.

Soludo maintained that the Monday sit-at-home has no legal basis and has continued to inflict severe damage on businesses, livelihoods, and the overall economy of Anambra State. He argued that the practice undermines ongoing efforts by the state government to restore peace, confidence, and economic stability.

However, Aguocha faulted the governor’s handling of the situation, suggesting that the measures taken could further worsen tensions rather than resolve the underlying issues driving the sit-at-home. He stressed the need for a more inclusive and strategic approach that addresses security concerns and engages affected stakeholders.

The sit-at-home, initially linked to insecurity and agitation in the South-East, has persisted despite repeated assurances by authorities, continuing to disrupt commercial activities across the region.
