The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced activities for the 2027 general elections with the opening of a 38-day window for political parties to conduct their primaries.
According to the commission, political parties are expected to hold primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly elections within the stipulated period, which runs from April 23 to May 30, 2026.
The INEC also directed parties to submit their membership registers at least 21 days before their primaries, with a final submission deadline set for May 10, 2026. The commission added that all internal party disputes arising from the primaries must be resolved within the timeline.
