The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the direct primary method for the selection of the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the party’s leadership as preparations intensify for the forthcoming presidential contest. Under the direct primary system, registered party members across the country will participate directly in choosing the APC’s flag bearer.

The move is expected to shape the party’s internal electoral process and mobilization strategy as aspirants begin consultations and alignments ahead of the primaries. Political observers say the adoption of the direct primary system could increase grassroots participation within the ruling party while also testing its organizational capacity nationwide.
